“SOMEONE VERY CLOSE TO YOU WANTS YOU DEAD!!!”

Update 12/22/11 –  If even 1/4 of FBI agents were “as-seen-on-TV” intelligent and ethical, we’d never read headlines as stupefying as “FBI Says Activists Who Investigate Factory Farms Can Be Prosecuted as Terrorists.” While Internet scamsters care the hell out of seniors and the mentally challenged to defraud them with emails like the one I received and posted, the FBI is busy protecting factory farmers from having their sleezy animal cruelty exposed to the public … arrests as “terrorists” for activists that expose animal cruelty, no attention paid whatsoever to very real Internet terrorists.  Only-following-orders oafs don’t serve our country; I wish they knew enough to be ashamed and to demand legitimate assignments. (Of course, there has been no response to my contacting the FBI and DoJ; they’ve got animal-torturing factory farmers to protect and serve.)

————————————–

Although I’m feeling washed-out, I’m not sufficiently beside myself to buy into an emailed death threat. But I’m genuinely concerned for those that might.

This is one of those weeks where I can’t count on what I write being clear, let alone convincing (or free of glaring spelling and grammatical errors despite painstaking proofreading).

The inside of my lower lip has been bitten repeatedly, my rings are misshapen, one of my already seizure-smashed teeth is missing another piece, I’m exhausted despite frequent naps, I hurt all over, I can’t think straight. All these things indicate that nocturnal seizures are on an upswing, which means my stress level is over-the-top.

This time, I can pinpoint when stress went into overload. It happened when the FTC approved LabCorp’s acquisition of Orchid Cellmark, leaving my questions unanswered about the ability to conduct forensic DNA testing ethically or affordably, with tens of thousands of innocents’ freedom at stake.

I can’t allow myself to be embarrassed by what’s beyond my control. It’s time instead to work harder at embarrassing public servants for what is within their control that they refuse to address, year after year, no matter who gets hurt.

Dear FBI and DoJ,

I am writing once again to insist that email scams be stopped, this time copying the FTC, which has allowed Internet Service Providers to become too big to give a damn about customers, as they have most business endeavors.

While the obvious death threat below wasn’t caught by my Earthlink spam folder (like a similar previous life threat), legitimate emails from organizations I’ve been actie [active] with for years often land there. I can have no confidence whatsoever in Earthlink’s filters.

Elderly and mentally challenged individuals may not notice the “undisclosed-recipients” that indicates the death threat email is a mass mailing, and may feel they have to respond to protect their lives. The very same people are the ones that are victimized by Internet financial scams.

Allowing citizens to be harassed in any way in their own homes via services they pay for is ridiculous; allowing vulnerable populations to be exploited via the purchase of a service is unconscionable.

Congress is getting ready to cave in to the requests of the moneyed few to censor the Internet like never before in overprotecting copyrights at the expense of liberties, and I’d bet my biggest Christmas present that the FBI will be quick and merciless in enforcement despite letting predators have at vulnerable populations on a daily basis for as long as the Internet has been open to the public.

Responses to grave concerns expressed to government servants are infrequent, and the most common response I receive is that whatever matter I’m requesting action on is not in their jurisdiction. No attempts are made to find out whose jurisdiction my concerns are within, no matter how serious the request.

There are likely a few unstable people shaking in their shoes right now over receiving this mass-emailed death threat, and there are thousands of unemployed people capable of understanding that mental instability is not a life choice … they would promptly address my concern for those individuals without once considering dismissing it out-of-hand or alternating whining, “That’s not my job.” Either step up, or step aside.

Sincerely,

Susan Chandler

  1. It saddens me that I’m getting so many “hits” on search words from the nasty email and the sender’s email address … it means that many are troubled by having received this mass email.

The FBI’s form to report “suspected terrorism or criminal activity” is located at the link below. While it is intimidating to let public servants know that you expect them to serve the public, nothing changes (except to worsen) without doing just that.

  2. A scambaiter says:

    Hello
I read this post, after being referred to it through 419eater.com. My identity or location is not relevant, which is why I’m hiding behind a network of servers and using a false e-mail address.
First off, the FBI, or any other American authorities, can’t most likely do anything, since they don’t have any jurisdiction outside the USA, where this scammer is most likely located. They can, at best, contact Google and ask them for informations about the scammer, where they will get an IP address on the person and hopefully contact the local authorities to deal with this person. Google would most likely think twice and not shut down the e-mail address. A scambaiter, such as myself, knows that making a free e-mail address takes a short time, which is why it’s regarded as counterproductive in the sense of fighting scams, if the scammer keeps a list of victims and their e-mails. If Google thinks like that too, the smart thing would be to make sure that every mail sent from that address would get marked as spam. If you try to google the e-mail address or the term “crocs ass killer”, you’ll have two anti-fraud websites popping up in the top 6 (3rd and 5th for the e-mail address, 1st and 6th for “crocs ass killer”). This means that should someone google either, they’ll know it’s a scam and hopefully not reply.
As for threats like that in general, the problem here isn’t what law enforcement in the western world can do, because I am sure that would that scammer be tracked back to USA or Europe, scambaiters would be contacting the relevant authorities before you could post up this blog. The problem is that there’s no jurisdiction for any police who can actually do something, in most cases of these scams. If you take a look at the scam tracker from 419eater.com, which can be found here: http://www.419eater.com/scamtracker/ , you can see how many scams originate from West Africa, compared to the rest of the world. The few you see from NA and Europe, I would estimate that half, if not more of, these people are using proxy-servers and actually writing from West Africa.
It’s a good, well written and informative blog you’ve written, from the perspective of a person with no experience in dealing with these scams, but unfortunately, your authorities most likely stand powerless.

  3. While I appreciate your kind closing, there’s absolutely no basis to believe that U.S. Intelligence is powerless via jurisdictional (or any other) constraints to remedy the plague of Internet frauds … after all, they interfere electronically (and by other covert means) on a daily basis in the day-to-day governing of almost every sovereign nation on the planet.

What we are experiencing in-so-far as U.S. Intelligence allowing conspicuous and continual Internet frauds is no different from what we’re experiencing in their allowing conspicuous and continual conviction corruption nationwide.

U.S. Intelligence agencies are led by uncaring, unqualified individuals incapable of putting public safety on their agendas, let alone making it their first priority. Oversight is a twisted joke.

    But that’s for now.

The AP reports, “The loose-knit hacking movement “Anonymous” claimed Sunday to have stolen thousands of credit card numbers and other personal information belonging to clients of U.S.-based security think tank Stratfor. One hacker said the goal was to pilfer funds from individuals’ accounts to give away as Christmas donations, and some victims confirmed unauthorized transactions linked to their credit cards.” (link below)

It’s not beyond imaging that “Anonymous” could engineer “refunds” to individuals whose Internet Service Provider’s allow them to be endlessly plagued by scammers. And it’s not beyond imaging that ISP’s would only want to be thus targeted but once, and that customer service would – overnight – include assuring their clients a fraud-free Internet experience.

  4. A Scambaiter says:

I’m going to take your words for good stuff here, since I have little knowledge about what backhand dealings the US government has around the world.
Where Anonymous is probably is one of the best ways those people can get a refund, that would by itself be extremely hard. Most scammers prefer to use Western Union, and for a good reason. Western Union transfers are untracable when they have been picked up. Often, a scammer can show up at a Western Union office and simply answer a test question and show a 10-digit MTCN to have their money picked up (same thing for MoneyGram, except it’s only 8 digits). A fellow baiter is currently doing research on scammers, how and why they do it. His little project has already given this little quote, regarding if the scammer is afraid to be busted for scamming: “Why will i be afraid? Even the government knows its was a result of what they (meaning white people) did to us back then, although is not encouraging but it can’t stop”. I’ll stop going out of a tangent here, but I can recommend a visit to several scambaiting sites to know more about scams.
I’m curious about how you suggest that ISP’s do anything else than having spam-filters on their mailservers, without violating the user’s privacy?
A little note about the “crocs ass killer”-script, it is specifically made to end up in spamboxes (a baiter supplied it to the scammer). Did you find it in your inbox or your spam?
The scammer’s original script is referenced in this blog: http://www.lansingstatejournal.com/article/20111214/COLUMNISTS09/112140313/Schneider-Hitman-email-qualifies-extreme-phishing

  5. The “croc” email made it into my inbox; it was not caught by my spam filter – just like a similar death threat before it.

The refunds “Anonymous” could engineer would come from their ISP’s, not from the scammers whose crimes the ISP’s have facilitated for years. ISP customers have no privacy at present for “Anonymous” to violate … not only do our ISP’s allow their subscribers to be subjected to emailed scams, they allow all manner of intrusive “cookies” to make it into our machines daily. Essentially, what customers get in paying ISP’s monthly for Internet access is a target on our backs.

People find my blog when they’re in trouble and searching for understanding about corrupt officers, prosecutors, judges, feds, etc. They learn they’re far from alone, and that my fighting back reveals our federal government to be nothing but a gigantic excuse factory.

Clearly, no innocent injured party – African or Israeli – earns the right to injure other innocent parties. And no government’s excuse for facilitating harm to innocents is ever valid.

Unlike our federal agencies, I can prioritize. While there are serious organizations I participate with to end our appalling official military and financial support of apartheid Israel, there are no serious organizations addressing conviction corruption, just as there are no serious organizations battling ISP’s turning paying customers into beleaguered patsies. While email scams steal money and peace of mind, conviction corruption ends innocent lives daily. My highest priority therefore remains ending conviction corruption, although I’ll wholeheartedly support any serious organization that attempts to end IPS’s facilitating predation on their clients should one spring up.

Our FBI doesn’t care that they so many scammers pretend to be their agency. They apparently believe it doesn’t make them look like ineffectual fools. I disagree.
