Living Wage Mandate Preemption Act – ALEC – American Legislative Exchange Council
Living Wage Mandate Preemption Act
The Living Wage Mandate Preemption Act repeals any local “living wage” mandates, ordinances or laws enacted by political subdivisions of the state. It also prohibits political subdivisions from enacting laws establishing “living wage” mandates on private businesses, including those businesses that have service contracts with and/or receive financial assistance from such political subdivisions of state government.
Petitions, protests and calling our legislators indeed work, it’s why many localities have raised the minimum wage without waiting for Congress to find its collective conscience.
This MoveOn petition declares a victory in getting Google to leave ALEC, and have been many such victories, through a variety of petition sites.
But some businesses go back to ALEC the minute they think no one is paying attention, and – quite obviously – there’s an endless supply of loopy legislators who ALEC can wine and dine into believing that 99% of their constituents should never be able to afford wine or dinner … or roofs over their head, or healthcare, or transportation, or retirement, etc.
Please sign and share this MoveOn petition that asks the IRS to address ALEC’s actions directly … getting a victory announcement atop this one could signal the beginning of ALEC’s end, because in the process, many people will notice that The Guardian – a UK publication – is looking out for ordinary Americans’ best interests better than the New York Times, Washington Post, USA Today, etc.
