Demand He and 10,000 PA Prisoners Receive Lifesaving HCV Treatment

You helped Mumia Abu-Jamal and thousands of other Pennsylvania prisoners this fall when you signed a petition demanding immediate treatment for hepatitis C virus (HCV). Your support is needed once again.

In the wake of signed petitions, phone calls, emails and meetings with state officials, Federal Court Judge Robert Mariani has ordered a full evidentiary hearing on Dec. 18 to determine if the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections (DOC) must provide, as Abu-Jamal’s legal team requests, the new, direct-acting, anti-viral medication for HCV that has a 95 percent cure rate.

The DOC currently has no standard of care for treating prisoners with this disease. For example, prison authorities willfully ignored Mumia’s health crisis until supporters initiated a campaign which eventually revealed medical proof that his ailments stem from untreated HCV.
