Pinellas, Citrus jail inmate says AIDS goes untreated | Tampa Bay Times
TAMPA — A Tampa man jailed since May said in a recent court filing that his AIDS is going untreated, and his attorney wrote days ago that the situation is “cruel,” “excessive” and “life-threatening.”
Although Kelby McCrillis has been on the same AIDS medication for 13 years, neither Florida’s Pinellas County jail or Citrus County jail seem able to secure confirmation that this is true so that they can provide treatment, even though McCrillis is in the Florida Department of Corrections database – it’s where I found his picture.
This seems to be okay with feds. Both Pinellas and Citrus are under contract with the U.S. Marshalls Service … McCrillis is now a federal prisoner.
Those that somehow can’t find it in their hearts to care about killing inmates by withholding medical treatment would do well to remember that successful wrongful death suits costs far more in tax dollars than medications do.
