Urgent Action Needed Now!!
Tell Your Member of Congress to Vote for the Cartwright Amendment Which Removes A Provision to Defund Rulemaking on Minimum Insurance Requirements for Motor Carriers in the THUD Appropriations Bill
June 3, 2015

Members of the trucking industry are pushing Congress to block a long overdue increase in minimum insurance requirements for motor carriers. The House Transportation, Housing and Urban Development (THUD) Appropriations bill for Fiscal Year 2016, which recently passed the full Appropriations Committee, contains a provision to defund rulemaking to review minimum insurance coverage for trucks. As the bill moves to the full House of Representatives for a vote, Rep. Cartwright will be offering an amendment to remove this Anti-Truck Safety provision from the legislation.
We need you to call and email your Members of Congress as soon as possible and urge them to vote YES on the Cartwright Amendment. This vote could happen as soon as tonight or tomorrow.
You can find your House member by going to and entering your zip code in the top right corner in the “Find Your Representative” section.
Or call the Capitol switchboard at 202-224-3121 and ask to be connected to a Member’s office.
Congress gave the DOT Secretary and FMCSA the authority to review the insurance level.  The rule making process, which includes public comments, should be respected and followed.
Minimum levels of insurance for trucks, currently set at $750,000, have not been increased in over 35 years and are woefully insufficient.
The underinsured segments of the industry are effectively subsidized by American taxpayers through unreimbursed social welfare programs including Medicaid and Social Security.
