Suicide while under investigation is an indication of overzealous investigation, not guilt. Examples aside from Shayne Austin include Bruce Ivin and Aaron Swartz.
Shayne Austin, 30, who reportedly signed an immunity agreement last year with prosecutors has committed suicide. Recently, authorities said that he became uncooperative and they planned on rescinding immunity and indicting him for the Tennessee nursing student’s 2011 murder. Luke Evans, Austin’s attorney, said that his client was being cooperative.
“It’s unfortunate the government came in and made allegations without basis,” he said, “People [have] to live with those allegations…”
Zachary Adams and Jason Autry, have already been indicted for the kidnapping and murder of Bobo, 20, who disappeared in 2011 from her home. In October, John Dylan Adams, Zachary Adams’ brother, was charged with rape. All have pled not guilty.
