#CentcomSockPuppets: US’ tackiest hacking in history

Revealed: US spy operation that manipulates social media | Technology | The Guardian

The US military is developing software that will let it secretly manipulate social media sites by using fake online personas to influence internet conversations and spread pro-American propaganda.

A Californian corporation has been awarded a contract with United States Central Command (Centcom), which oversees US armed operations in the Middle East and Central Asia, to develop what is described as an “online persona management service” that will allow one US serviceman or woman to control up to 10 separate identities based all over the world.

Fake Internet ID’s are a hallmark of totalitarian regimes. And hookers. And pedophiles. And teen bullies. And cheating spouses.

They aren’t a slippery slope.

They’re a monumental mudslide.

Centcom needs a new commander, fast, and all cooperating nations need to stop cooperating with this “service,” which is anything but a modern day version of Radio Free Europe. It is simply enhanced entrapment, an escalation of another of George W. Bush’s imperialistic excesses … which Barack Obama not only specializes in, but tops by jailing journalists and whistleblowers, betraying truth as his worst enemy.
