He recalled seeing a new inmate brought into DCI one night who was given the standard rundown by one corrections officer: “We kill guys here and get away with it, so you better ask around.”
It is not the first time an inmate has said officers used that threat. Lawsuits and public records of grievances filed by inmates, and reviewed by the newspaper, have also said that guards at the prison boasted of being able to kill inmates.

The linked article’s accounting of cleaning up Darren Rainey’s scalded-off skin is nightmarish.
There are inmates and health professionals who are living in fear for speaking up, who will be without peace until Darren Rainey’s murder and related abuses are addressed. The only ones that should be uncomfortable right now are Darren Rainey’s killers, their FL DoC friends, Corizon, Governor Rick Scott, and U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder.
