Rape Kit Backlog: DoJ needs to ask where DNA grant money went.

States struggle to tackle backlog of untested rape kits | Al Jazeera America

Nationwide, the Department of Justice estimates, 400,000 rape kits have gone untested. Last year Congress recognized the backlog of untested rape kits as a national problem in passing the Sexual Assault Forensic Evidence Reporting Act, or SAFER, which seeks to provide data on the number of unsolved rape cases awaiting testing and establish better standards for the tracking, storage and use of DNA evidence in sexual assault cases.

I’ve looked at Justice Department grant disbursements for DNA – they’re far closer to astronomical than they are to nominal.

Rape kits can be processed quickly, and cheaply … there is no excuse not to run them.

Not even perhaps the biggest excuse – the victim dropped the charges.

The links below indicate that it’s more important than ever for the public to understand that successful rapists seldom stop raping women, and that can only be accomplished by running each and every rape kit.

Virginia state Senator Steve Miller’s portrayed pregnant women as “hosts.” Ohio legislators already allow rapists to seek visitation rights, and some are trying to allow rapists to sue for custody.

How reprehensible that women who have been violently dehumanized by rapists get nothing from their misogynous legislators but a life sentence of humiliation … and fear. Fear for the proclivities of their attacker, fear for a second generation of crippling emotional harm, fear for another pregnancy – of having your product-of-rape daughter become “host” to her own brother or sister.

Tons of taxpayer money was disbursed for DNA tests. The DoJ needs to find that money and get those rape kits run.

Successful rapists don’t stop raping, and many move on to killing.

The Ohio link below is a petition to stop legislators from awarding superior rights to rapists over their victims … please sign and share on social media. Thank you.
