Throughout the report, cruel conditions surface in just about every aspect of YSI’s operations. From slapping youth to fracturing their bones, YSI guards have a violent history with young inmates.

Alternet author Alyssa Figueroa did a good job of summarizing Huffington Post author Chris Kirkham’s damning report of privatized prison facilities for juveniles. The excerpt above is from her revelation number two, titled Cruel Conditions.

Legislators and governors – like mine – that market the mystical math of privatization as workable typically benefit from their misperceptions, in the form of campaign contributions from middlemen.

It remains impossible to involve people who are unnecessary to the delivery of a service – including shareholders who expect a return on their investment – and SAVE MONEY without severely diminishing the quality of the service.

Privatization is a rip-off. And when it comes to prisons – juvenile and adult – often a deadly rip-off.
