Given the GOP’s concern for defunding any organization that would file fraudulent paperwork with any federal or state agency, you would think Republicans would have thrown the book at Amgen if they had a chance.
That’s not quite what happened. On the eve of the fiscal cliff deal, behind closed doors, three self-proclaimed deficit hawks snuck a loophole into the law that guaranteed Amgen would get back most of the money it paid in penalties. Republican Minority Leader Mitch McConnell and the Senate Finance Committee’s ranking Republican Orrin Hatch inserted a loophole that rewarded Amgen at a cost to taxpayers of half a billion dollars.
via ACORN, Amgen and the GOP Budget for 2013.
No individual or group of individuals could have killed ACORN in 2009 without the mainstream media’s direct assistance … ACORN’s mission was clearly above-board, and the sole count of wrongdoing involved one office, which was guilty of providing unlawful $5 bonuses for those securing more than 21 new registered voters.
No individual or group of individuals could have snuck Amgen’s half billion dollar 2012 “refund” under the radar without the mainstream media’s direct assistance … Amgen’s mission is clearly to enlist the aid of as many legislators as possible to continue fleecing the public without fear of court-ordered restitution sticking.
Those who are on Facebook can spare themselves the embarrassment of being perceived as idiots for believing that ACORN was evil and Amgen isn’t. They can “like” Truthout and get something on their newsfeed that cures cluelessness.
